ENERGY RECOVERY VENTILATION

Energy Recovery Ventilation.

Humans need to breathe and houses need to ventilate.

Ventilation has to happen for various reasons.

(1) smell

(2)air pollution

(3)humidity-occupant comfort, protecting the structure from moisture

In a passive house, you use ERV which means you use controlled ventilation. You don’t just randomly open your windows and be exposed to uncontrol cool air loss. ERV has very low energy consumption to run its fans it has to have a 75% energy recovery ventilation rate at a minimum.
